My scalp HATES me

I've been singing the praises of grapeseed oil for days. My hair is definitely softer with less breakage than ever before. However, my scalp hates my guts. I've explained before that my scalp does things that go beyond dandruff. It's like an extra layer of dead skin cakes on and will peel off like scales ... Right now ... My scalp feels like a double layer of dead skin is caked on. The grapeseed oil is great for my hair, but I'm going to have to go back to greasing my scalp like I used to because the grapeseed oil is simply too light to offer my scalp any type of moisture to relieve it from this dryness.

Grapeseed Oil

After my rant about the oil I bought, I went to the Whole Foods store and bought this.

When I went to buy this, it was sitting next to some almond oil and Jojoba oil. I picked this one because the 4oz bottle was only $4.99. The almond oil wasn't much more but I hadn't done any research on the almond oil so I stuck to this. I'd washed my hair 2 days before and hadn't put anything on it. That night, I parted my hair and put just a little in each part and then smoothed some over my hair. I let it sit overnight, then the next day, I used my flat iron and straightened it. WOW ... What a difference just a little bit of grapeseed oil made on how my hair feels. It feels so moisturized and actually healthy. It's a light oil with no smell. I feel like it still weighs on my hair but not very much at all. My hair is smooth, shiny and my ends feel like they were never dry at all. It's the happiest I've seen my hair, just from an oiling. I'm sold on this stuff. I'm also willing to guess it's a heat protectant because my hair didn't smoke when I flat ironed it.

I also hear that grapeseed oil is a good skin toner as well as moisturizer. I'll tell you what. I have eczema and will break out around my nose often. Today, after I washed my face, the areas along the corner of my nose began to flake. I put just a dab of grapeseed oil on those dry spots and the dryness is gone. Amazing. I love it.

New Blog Name and New Products

I've actually changed the name of this blog. At first, it was about me trying to transition from relaxed to natural hair. That didn't work out for me at all. Anything I tried, I hated it. The new growth was too much and I really honestly didn't figure out how in the world to deal with my hair in it's natural state SO ...

I've moved from transitioning, back to relaxed, but using a Just For Me - Texture Softener. It works just as well as an adult relaxer but it doesn't make my scalp burn AT ALL. My entire reason for going natural was because relaxers basically hurt. NO MORE YALL, NO MORE. This kid texturizer has been a wonderful thing for me.

Moving on ...

Two new things to tell you about. 1, I still have a very caked up dandruffy scalp so I decided to find a better grease for my scalp. During my online search I basically learned that most scalp grease products clog the scalp so badly that your hair won't grow. I don't know who they've been testing that mess on because my scalp needs the moisture. It is VERY dry and does not have that natural oil that it's supposed to have so I have to put something on it. The grease I've been using in the past is great and I can really grease my scalp with anything, but, I wanted to try something different. I found that grape seed oil, jojoba oil and basically any oil (not mineral and petroleum jelly) will do on a scalp.

I haven't been able to get to the whole foods store to get it but in the mean time, I found this oil in Walmart.

It's supposedly an all natural blend of coconut, avocado and castor oil. It's not runny like other oils I've used and it doesn't weigh my hair down. Big plus. But the smell! I honestly can't stand it. I've been having a lot of fun with my hair the past few days and this has ruined it. I'm not giving it time to work on my scalp to give you a proper review because I cannot stand the smell. It smells like medicine. I would, however, consider using it for a hot oil treatment. But as of right now, when I just wanted moisture on my scalp, I'm going to wash this out immediately.

New Product. Result Unknown.

NEXT! A great conditioner I found ...

I bought this in Wal-Mart and absolutely love it. It says it's a leave-in but I haven't tried it as a leave-in because I'm not keen on leave-ins unless it's more like a tonic or watery substance. This, however, used as a regular conditioner, IS HEAVEN. It had my hair feeling like BUTTAH! I washed my hair and put this on, combed through my hair, only letting it sit for about a minute, then rinsed it out and my hair was just like YAY! Yes, that's what it was saying. Plus, it smells amazing. How you try it and like it too.

New Product. Good Result.
(it only gets 'good' because I havent tried it as a leave-in yet)

GroWorks No Flakes

I actually bought this about 3 months ago because I thought it would be something I needed to give time to really work. I picked it up in CVS for, I think $8.99 because it said 'no flakes' which I tend to have a lot of. The bottle also states that it is a calming scalp oil that relieves itchy, flaky scalp and replenishes the scalps natural oils. Great ... I thought this would be a winner because when my scalp itch's ... It ITCH'S ... Im talking about me scratching to the point where I've broken the actual skin of the scalp.

Ok so ... Good thing is it's not overly greasy and will soak into my scalp within about a day BUT it is VERY runny. But what it does do ... If my scalp is dry and caking up with flakes, it loosens them up really well but itching? No ... Don't even.
Bad thing ... It does not stop itching AT ALL. Not even close.

Poor Result ... New Product

+++++

For itching ... This is the best thing I've ever used and still use. It's that good ole school Ultrasheen so it's greasy ... Duh ... But it works FAST on itching. If your scalp is itching, this is the only thing I'll recommend if you're not ready to go on and wash your hair yet.

Great Result ... Recommendation

Braid Out on Transitioning Hair

So I kept trying to achieve a really nice braid out look and have failed miserably. Thankfully, I found something that worked and came out nicely.

For one. For me. It works best on freshly washed hair. I went back to my old faithful Biolage products. I used the Hydrating shampoo, conditioner and the leave in tonic. After I combed the leave-in tonic through, I braided up my hair. I did a piece in the front so I have a little hair in my face, then I did 3 more braids, so I had 4 in total. I sat under the dryer for about an hour, then slept on it.

This morning, I got up and used some spray grease. Not a lot, just enough to give it some shine. Then I finger combed it and LOVE my big result. In some of the pictures, I'm sure you can see the monster new growth, lol.

Thank you Biolage! By the way, I have a huge forehead and like to keep some covered.

Also ... Only a few strands of hair escaped my head this time around. *pumps fist*

Olive Oil Smooth-N-Hold Pudding

I keep hearing about twist-out this and braid-out that ... So I decided to do it and see what it's all about. I didn't plan on buying this but I was in the Family Dollar messing around and bought it. I'd washed my hair the day before so that night, when I took it down, my hair was still a bit damp. I sectioned it off, put the Smooth-N-Hold on each piece, smoothed it out and braided it up, then put a tiny roller on the end.

Pretty easy to do ...

This morning when I got up, I took the braids down and this is the result I got. I actually like the result but I hate the puffiness. I think it's just that I don't know how to properly 'comb' it once coming out of the braids so it doesn't look so BIG.

But this stuff did what it was supposed to do ... Hold and moisturize. I think it's great and I will definitely be using this again and again. Warning ... It's heavy and a bit on the greasy side. Well ... I used a lot because I'm experimenting, but it seems really heavy on my hair once I take it down. Next time, maybe I'll use less and do it when my hair is fresh from being washed. We'll see!
